The French Charade E-Circuit welcomes WES for Round 3 Presented by Magneti Marelli Checkstar

Monaco (P.ty) Wednesday 14 July 2021 – The spectacular location near Clermont-Ferrand and the UNESCO World Heritage site in the Chaîne des Puys mountain chain is ready to host the third Round of the WES UCI E-MTB XC World Cup season, next 17-18 July.

The motorsports world-famous Charade E-Circuit is the last mountain speed track in the country featuring the ultimate facilities in terms of energy transition and green sources supply.

WES standings leaders in both Women’s and Men’s categories can’t wait to compete in their home round, in front of their home crowd, for the first WES Event in the season open to spectators.

Mélanie Pugin (BH) and Jérôme Gilloux (Moustache) will show up in their WES Leader’s Jersey to defend their advantage over the competitors in the double race scheduled for next weekend. In the Women’s field, the reigning World Champ is leading by 20 points over the Brit Karen Pepper (Lapierre) and 26 over German Sofia Wiedenroth (Specialized), who makes her comeback after the injury that left her out of the game in the previous round. Confirmed Nathalie Schneitter (Trek Bosch) and returning Kathrin Stirnemann (Thömus) will both come from their hometown in Switzerland to make the game harder for the top-3, being well-known podium contenders.

On the Men’s side, 2020 Worlds Silver Medallist and E-XC full-blown specialist Jérôme Gilloux will race to confirm his strong lead achieved in full score, after four wins in a row. Joris Ryf (Bergstrom) will keep chasing after the Frenchman, as he did so far since the beginning of the season, finishing second in four consecutive races and coming to France with a 20-point gap in the standings. Corsican Cecce Camoin (Specialized), third overall and third on the podium of WES Bologna Race 1 will surely do his best to step on the podium again this week and left Théo Charmes (Cube) far behind. Not an easy job, as the two are separate by 11 points only.

WES Charade/Clermont-Ferrand Round is going to be the last one in the season where riders will fight to get eligible points to secure one out of the 15 available quota places to access the UCI E-MTB World Championships, the one-shot event taking place at the end of August, assigning the 2021 rainbow jersey.

Once again, the schedule will see a qualirace and a race on day 1, Saturday, as well as on Sunday, with two separate podium ceremonies and prizes. The Presenting Partner of the French Round, Magneti Marelli Checkstar will award the fastest lap setters in both categories on day 2, as a tradition.

Amateurs can join the pro-guides on track and sign up for the Ride WES to discover the trails of the World Cup on Sunday and, along with the fans, meet the local heroes Pugin and Gilloux on a special Meet & Greet.

Side events, E-bike testing, education and kids activities are planned in the paddock over the weekend for the visitors’ delight.
