Clash of legends and chasers: Monaco Alpes-Maritimes Round battle awaits

Monaco will host the WES UCI E-MTB XC World Cup for the seventh year in a row

Monaco (P.ty), Wednesday 23 July 2025 – On July 26-27, electric bikes will ride the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, in France, as the Monaco Alpes-Maritimes Round venue.

For the second year in a row, the event will take place at Col de Turini, with its winding switchbacks and towering ascent to 1,607 meters above sea level, which has long been a proving ground for elite competition.

Once a stage for the FIA World Rally Championship and the Tour de France, and now welcomes the WES UCI E-MTB XC World Cup, adding another chapter to its sporting legacy.

An exciting weekend full of action and high expectations for reigning World Champions Jérôme Gilloux (Lapierre Overvolt) and Sofia Wiedenroth (Specialized), as well as local hero and World Cup Men’s standings leader Théo Charmes (Teewing Factory Team).

Anna Spielmann (Haibike) is set to land in Monaco with one clear objective: to maintain her position at the top of the standings. But the challenge will be far from simple. Among those ready to contest her dominance is none other than the Swiss veteran Nathalie Schneitter (Trek Bosch), 2-time World Champ, returning to WES competition thirsty for victory.

Speed and strategy

Also joining the fray is the Teewing Factory Team, preparing for its second World Cup outing. The squad will be looking to build on the momentum of a promising debut, aiming to establish itself among the sport’s emerging forces.

In the Men’s field, Italian Champion Mirko Tabacchi (Thok Askoll) has his sights set on a second World Cup victory. However, his ambitions will be tested by an elite lineup, including  Gilloux, Swiss Champ Joris Ryf (Specialized), Catalan Adrián Cuellar Alonso (Bafang Factory Artesana), and several other top riders ready to push their limits. Tabacchi currently has 41 points, tied with Charmes, while Ryf holds 23 and Cuellar has 20.

Facts and figures

For the seventh year in a row, this French venue remains a key stop on the calendar. From 2019 to 2022, the action unfolded in Peille, followed by an edition in Breil-sur-Roya in 2023, before moving to Col de Turini last season, where the battle continues.

No one has dominated here quite like Sofia Wiedenroth and Jérôme Gilloux. The German boasts 4 victories and 7 podium finishes, while the French has an unmatched 8 wins and 9 podiums to his name.

This round also marks a special return for Anna Spielmann. It was here in 2023 that she captured her first World Cup podium, and just a year later, she sealed her first World Cup title after a season-long duel with Wiedenroth.
